In the first lesson, the teacher introduced what is necessary versus what is acceptable. He had students work together as a class to construct sentences, using driving-related signs ("stop," "free parking," etc.) as visual aids. He used hand gestures to elicit responses. Students then made these sentences into questions, and practiced answering negatively and positively. Students individually completed a related worksheet during the "study" stage of the lesson. They reviewed the answers as a group. For the "activate" stage, students played a game to competing to construct "can" and "can't" sentences.
In the second lesson, students first introduced their names. Students then individually answered questions about what you can/ can't do in certain locations (zoo, beach, etc.). He used a wider variety of helpful hand/ body gestures and spoke more slowly, using simpler language. He is kinder and more welcoming when a student walks in late. He elicits answers to complete his sentences and calls on a variety of students. He reviewed conjugation with different subjects. Students then completed a worksheet together in pairs and review answers as a class. Finally, they complete an interview "activate" activity to learn information about each other.
