I gained an understanding of the qualities that make up a good teacher and various roles the teacher can use in the classroom to promote learning. It is important to approach teaching using the different roles such as controller, tutor, facilitator, etc., because gravitating towards one method can hinder the learning process. Each method has potential negative effects, for example, relying on only the controller method may lead to boredom and lack of motivation for the students. By utilizing multiple methods, the teacher can cater to more students who may have different learning processes or motivations. Also, I gained an understanding of what makes a good learner and assess level of language fluency, which is useful in determining which teaching methods and topics are more beneficial to the specific group of students that one is teaching.
