Unit 2 was an introduction to basic English grammar and focused on the most important parts of speech such as verbs, nouns, adjectives, articles and many others! This lesson provided definitions of each part of speech and gave helpful examples which showed how to use them in a sentence. Grammar can be intimidating but breaking down the different parts of speech makes it seem easier to tackle and understand. I found this unit to be extremely useful because I have not studied English grammar very much in the past. English is my native language so I know when something sounds right or wrong but I never knew how to properly explain to someone why their grammar was incorrect. One thing I was unaware of before was how many irregular verbs the English language has. Normally there are specific grammar rules to follow but not always. Sometimes it just takes practice and memorization. I also learned that each part of speech can be broken down into even more specific parts of speech! Let's take verbs as an example. There are many types of verbs: action, state, transitive, intransitive, infinitives, etc.. There are also many different verb tenses which require different conjugations. I knew what verbs were but I didn't know about all of the different types. After reading this chapter, I have a much better understanding of basic English grammar, the general rules and all of the different parts of speech.
