The phonetic spelling of English words may help the student with the pronunciation of new words when a native speaker is not there to help. It is interesting to notice our everyday pronunciation that is represented in this unit. for instance, we do not say budder, we say butter and I wonder at teaching a new speaker to pronounce the colloquial way of speaking. A more formal approach might be called for. However, it is very good to know the difference between the two.
