Past tense is a grammatical tense whose principal function is to place an action or situation in past time. There are four past tenses in English such as:
1 Simple past: For actions starting and ending in the past ( add ed/d to the base form of the Verb or used irregular Verb in past simple)
2 Past continuous: For actions starting in the past and continuing to the present( auxiliary Verb [to be] is going to change to past simple form is [was/were] and Verb is adding ING)
3 Past perfect: for actions that started and ended in the past before another action that is also in the past. ( often used conjunctions words such as "when" and "after")- (auxiliary Verb [ have/has] is going to change to past simple and Verb will convert to past participle)
4 Past perfect Continuous: for actions that were going on in the past up until another action in past happened. ("have/has" altered to "had", "been" will place between "had" and "Verb + ing" ).
