Going into the lesson, I did not expect it to be as complex as it turned out to be. I had learned about conditionals and even touched on direct and indirect speech in the past when I studied Spanish linguistics, but it appears the English version is significantly more comprehensive. I expected to only learn about "would" structures but I was immediately given 5 different conditional forms which, though they were relatively new to learn about, all made sense given the context. It took a while to truly understand what was meant with backshifting from direct to indirect (or reported) speech, but the questions on this test actually helped me conceptualize them a lot better and realize that it's not as complex as the chart made it seem... perhaps just complex to teach non-native English students these concepts that may not even exist in their native tongue.
