Writing and speaking are the productive skills; writing is often overlooked in teaching language and relegated to homework time. Speaking requires more fluency, but writing requires more accuracy. Speaking activities can take several forms: controlled activities like 3 by 3 drilling, guided activities like roleplays, and creative communication like debates or simulations. Writing activities in the real world are often completed individually, but in the classroom collaborative writing activities help elicit a variety of ideas. Competitive and cooperative games can be used to generate student interest and participation.
