A lesson plan can be an aid to planning as it can outline what the lesson hopes to achieve and how.
It can also be a working document in that it helps the teacher with how the lesson may be structured and what materials may be needed to achieve lesson goals. This structure should be flexible to allow for students needs such as if a class is enjoying a particular activity it may be given more time because students are more likely to retain the information while they are enjoying themselves when learning.
A lesson plan should also be a record of what a class has achieved and what it can build on in future lessons.
