In Unit 9, I learned the importance of creating a lesson plan and what it should entail. A lesson plan should serve as an aid to planning and to set specific goals as to what you want to achieve by the end of the class. It should help you stay focused on the criteria and help you from getting off track. Lastly, it should act as a record and help you refer to what the class has done and the materials used. When writing a lesson plan, it should be kept simple, structured and maintain the same structure, time per activity, a variety of skills and well balanced throughout the plan, and it should be flexible and open to adaptation. Before teaching a lesson, it is very important to stay organized. You should make sure that you have your plan, materials needed for plan, confirm that equipment is working correctly, lay out out materials and aids so you can find them easily, have a clean board, and be ready to talk to students as they enter the classroom. When planning a sequence of lessons you need to consider flexibility, as plans often change. Setting goals, will help the teacher and the student know what they are aiming at. Revision over several lessons is important so they retain the information. Lastly, variety and balance should be used to keep the lessons exciting and make sure all of the skills are included. The sample lesson that was given will help as a reference tool when creating a lesson plan and I now feel comfortable with writing my own.
