A class cannot function without classroom management, and that is the first job of a a teacher - to create an atmosphere that is conducive for learning. I currently work with respectful adults and problem behavior is not a problem in my classroom. However, for younger groups, I have had to implement some of the techniques cited in this unit. I find it is important to monitor student interest level and I try to make sure that the content and activities that I present capture attention. I prefer to work with students in a circle because I can see all of my students, and I can engage all of the students. It is much harder for a student to hide or zone out in a circle. I also try to limit my teacher talk as much as I can.
