This unit reviewed the basic qualities and characteristics of good teachers and good students. It reviewed the different roles the teacher may need to perform based on current classroom activities and circumstances and described the importance of each. It also described the differences between adult and young learners in various categories of student qualities. The importance of considering the cultural aspects of the teaching location was discussed and how it may impact the class environment. Distinctions between language learning levels were made and the differences between teaching students at each level were discussed. Finally, the most common reasons that motivate students to learn English were discussed. Although I have many years of experience teaching English speaking adults technical subjects, this unit helped me to consider things I may not have thought of on my own such as the differences in different age brackets of younger learners, the motivations each student might have and cultural impacts on classroom environment and teaching style.
