This unit focused on how a teacher needs to adapt her role to each classroom situation or education activity and find that balance between being too dominant or leaving the students too uncertain. Eye contact, gestures, voice, and using students' names can all be effective tools to engage students in the task when used properly. Different types of student groupings have their pros and cons, mostly focused on the balance between STT and TTT. Classroom arrangement may depend on the physical limitations and types of students. While orderly rows may lower STT, they might be the only option for really large class sizes. The most useful thing I learned from this unit was how to give instructions. Specifically, to refrain from giving out distracting handouts beforehand, to be consistent with instruction vocab, to use language below the level being taught, and to give one instruction at a time.
