The focus of this unit was the use of course books and lesson materials. It gave insight into the benefits of using both authentic and created materials for lesson plans with students as the both can inspire confidence and generate engagement as well as more intrigue into the lesson; however, authentic materials are not graded for level and may be more challenging based on the level of the students versus the level of the material. Course books are also a hotly debated aspect of the classroom due to the fact that they while potentially reliable for a syllabus and grade level point of view, there are occasions where information may need to be omitted or changed to fit the students in a specific classroom. I learned that it is okay to use a mixture of these elements within my lesson plan and while a course book may seem dated it is a helpful guide that can be expanded upon with materials of my own.
