This unit is essentially about the different tests students may have to take. There are different types of tests that serve different purposes. We could put them in this specific order. First one to be taken prior to the course is the placement test which allows the school to put the student with students of the same level of English. Then, at the beginning of the course the teacher can give them a diagnostic test.This test will help the teacher see the students weaknesses and what he or she needs to focus on in order to help them. Periodically, the teacher will have them take "Progress tests" to help the students remember the information learned and see what they need to improve. Practice tests are for those who intend on taking an external test such as TOEFL. These external tests give the recipient a certificate that will allow him or her get certain privileges such as entering a university as a non native speaker or qualify for a new job.
