In this lesson, I learned about the various ways students can be tested and evaluated in classes. I also learned about how to make evaluations for students to give for their teachers. Regarding testing of students, tests can be broken down into the various types that are given. Placement tests are designed to place new students into classes according to their language ability. Progress tests are given periodically throughout a semester in order to gauge how much of the new material is being internalized by the students. Some teachers prefer to give less progress tests than others. Diagnostic tests are similar to placement tests but they are usually given at the start of a course to give the teacher a deeper understanding of the level of their students. Practice tests are given to imitate and help prepare students for external evaluations. Common examples of external evaluations include the TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC and Cambridge Assessments.
