This unit focused on the importance and methods that can be used to better the receptive skills of English language learners. The unit not only gave the reasons as to why receptive skills are important, but also discussed how they are critical to every individual who is learning a language. I found it very helpful to see the different skills that we employ when receiving information through language, and found the differentiation between each skill and the reasons why they are employed very helpful to understand. I also found the outline of a typical receptive skills lesson to be very beneficial for my learning. Seeing each of the steps that can be taken to employ receptive skills throughout a lesson and gradually improve them was very helpful and a very practical tool for me as a developing teacher.
