Unit 4 was an introduction to the Present tense of the English language. These include the Present Simple, Present Continuous (or Presents Progressive), the Present Perfect, and the Present Perfect Continuous. Each of these verb tenses have affirmative, negative, and question forms. Each tense also has specific rules and usages to convey meaning. Although the present tenses (obviously) are used to describe actions that are taking place at the time of speaking, often these tenses are used to describe actions that have taken place in the past but have a present consequence. An example of this would be the sentence, "I've left my keys at work." This sentence structure follows the present perfect form, but uses the auxiliary verb 'have.' This can be very confusing for English learners and will require lots of practice and review to master.
