Vocabulary lessons depend largely on the tasks which the students need to accomplish in English. Function of the language is also important to teach, including the appropriateness of vocabulary to the situation. Different ESA structures are better suited to different kinds of lessons--vocabulary, grammatical structures, or function--than others, but there are no hard-and-fast rules about it; use whichever ESA structure will work best for my students, my course, and my teacher guide.
