I learnt about past tenses in Unit 6. I learnt the differences between past simple, past continuous, past perfect and past perfect continuous. They are slightly different in conveying past actions in a sentence. The unit also explained the usage, common errors and teaching ideas of each past tenses.
I found the usage of each past tenses a bit tricky. The usage of past simple is to use action that has been completed at a definite time. The usage of past continuous is to use for past actions that is been interrupted for example, it is used without a time expression. The usage of past perfect is for action that happened before other past actions. Finally, the usage for past perfect continuous is a continuous action in the past up until an action in the past.
I have always felt that grammar was a bit challenging for me but the more I learn about it, the more I understand what the use for different words are.
