One of the most important thing before teaching the class is to be able to manage one. In unit 5, it teaches about managing the classroom. Firstly, it explains what our eyes, voice and gestures can do in a classroom setting. I do believe that non-verbal language is also important in the class because it helps to reduce teacher’s talk time and adds in visual interest for students. Secondly, the unit then explains how to group students for example, whole class, individual and pair work. It also explained their advantages and disadvantages. A balance between individual work and group work is important because students will be able to practise to learn themselves and in groupwork, they will be able to learn from each other. An interesting information I learnt is when I ask a question I should say the student’s name after the question so that student’s will be forced to think about the answer. I have probably called the student’s name after I ask the question when I was teaching but I did not notice the importance of calling it out after the question. When I was teaching I was always writing down points on the board and did not have clear way to do it because I went with the flow. This unit has explained how to avoid turning to my back on students while teaching and I think the points are useful for instance, using a projector, inviting students to write for me or have it written on the board beforehand. Finally, I agree with establishing rapport with students and students to students. Having a good atmosphere and good relationship with each other can help students to focus, build their interest and enjoy their class. It will help students to learn in a fun way.
