THE PRESENT TENSES The Tense System The English language contains twelve tenses, opposed to the majority of other languages that only employ three tenses the most; thus, presenting difficulties for foreign English Learners. The three different times of the English language: the past, the present and the future, and the four aspects of each of these times: simple, continuous, perfect and perfect continuous. This course unit covers the following areas: - form - usages - typical student errors - activate stage teaching ideas PRESENT SIMPLE Forms: - affirmative, negative and question Usages, with example sentences Typical mistakes/ errors Sample activate stage teaching ideas PRESENT CONTINUOUS Forms: affirmative, negative and question - also see regular and contracted forms and the latter's pronunciation; - non-progressive verbs are usually not used in the continuous forms. Usages, with example sentences Typical student mistakes/ errors Teaching ideas: developing situations, telling stories, actions in progress PRESENT PERFECT Forms: - I/ you/ we/ they have or he/ she/ it has + past participle - affirmative, negative and question The four different usages of this tense. The long and contracted forms. This tense requires the past/ past participle forms of both, regular and irregular verbs. Typical student mistakes/ errors. Sample activate stage teaching ideas.
