This unit has taught a lot on what to expect upon entering the classroom and the various personalities and cultural differences a teacher can expect on imparting knowledge. I learned about differences between adults and young learners. Some of which include that adults have a higher attention span than young learners, therefore making it easier to control the class, especially in regards to behavioral problems. Adults tend to also be more motivated as they have chosen to learn the language for themselves. Regardless of the differences, a good teacher should be able to apply their necessary roles and qualities for effective teaching such as to be kind and patient, be able to correct students without offending or demovitating them, to ensure all learners are given equal attention and to have good knowledge of the subject matter. A good teacher should also know when to apply their differing roles or combining such roles for effective teaching. These include acting as a facilitator, organizer, manager/controller, participant, tutor, model, prompter, assessor and observer, and considering their students level of English in their teaching approach.
