This unit is a form of revision for me. It is surprising how much I have forgotten about the tenses of my own native language. Trying to explain why we do what we do to a student is a mine field. I know from past experience that people learning English tend to know more about our grammar than we do. Once I sat down and made notes about each of the 4 present tenses, their forms and usages it became a lot easier to get organized in my brain!
I appreciated the sections on "Typical mistakes and errors" as they really made me think about how to explain the corrections in simple terms.
The Activate Stage teaching ideas in the unit notes and in the video were very useful and I plan to put the ideas on index cards for each of the 4 present tenses so they will be easily accessible when needed.
It will be fun to start a file of useful pictures and ideas for teaching.
My next step is to start working through some of the grammar books for both students and teachers so I become really familiar with and unfazed by our scary English grammar!
