This unit was all about management in the classroom. It thoroughly explained both the advantages and disadvantages of class set up and working in pairs, individually, or as an entire class. I learned that when students work by themselves, they tend to become more self-reliant, however this reduces student to student interaction. That's negative because student talk time in the classroom is very important! I also learned that the horseshoe classroom set up is good for smaller classes and helps the teacher appear less dominant. It also allows for an easy way to set up pair work. This unit also taught me how to properly give instructions, by using simple language and by asking students what they're going to do to insure they understand the task.
