In this unit, I learned about trouble shooting. There are several common problem situations that teachers may face such as ‘first lesson’, ‘warmers’, ‘different levels’, ‘large classes’, ‘use of native language’, ‘reluctant students’, ‘difficulties with listening texts’. 1. In first lesson you should 1.1 establishing rapport between the students 1.2 find out about the students 1.3 find out about students’ needs / aspiration with English 1.4 find out the English level of each individual class member 1.5 activities that teachers can use are 1.5.1 questionnaire/survey 1.5.2 ‘Tell us about’ 1.5.3 Pass the ball game 1.5.4 Need analysis 2. Warmers – short, fun, communicative activities to get students motivated and using English such as 2.1 hangman 2.2 pictionary 2.3 tongue twisters 2.4 memory games 3. different levels can be fix by 3.1 use different materials 3.2 same material, different tasks 3.3 don’t do anything, let each student find his/her own level with in class 3.4 pair stronger students with weaker ones 4. large class 4.1 use worksheets 4.2 pair/group work 4.3 clarity 4.4 choral repetition 4.5 appoint group leaders 4.6 dynamics 5. use of native language – in monolingual class, students may sometime unable to express in English or want to help explain something to help another student. On that situation, there are some thing that teacher can do such as. 5.1 make sure activities use are at appropriate level. 5.2 Make sure your explanation are clear to all class members. 5.3 Encourage the usage of English 5.4 Only response to English 5.5 Constantly remind the student 6. reluctant students 6.1 use plenty of pair work 6.2 use controlled practice 6.3 use role play 6.4 use a tape recorder 7. difficulties with listening texts 7.1 make sure it is a problem with listening skill 7.2 carry out the lesson at the pace pf the majority of the class 7.3 have ‘word search’ activity for quick finisher.
