Parts of speech are classified into: 1) Nouns Types of nouns: a)Common nouns: They are not capitalized unless they come at the beginning of a sentence e.g chair. b)Proper nouns: They are always capitalized e.g Jhon. c)Compound nouns: They are two words joined to form a new word e.g sunrise. d)Abstract nouns: It includes ideas that can't be touched e.g justice. e)Collective: Name of a group of individuals e.g family. Nouns can either be countable or uncountable. 2)Adjectives: They are used to describe nouns. Comparative form of adjectives = adj + ....er than. Superlative form of adjectives = the + adj....est. 3)Verbs They can either be: a)Transitive verbs: They are followed by an object. b)Intransitive verbs: They aren't directly followed by an object. 4)Articles a)Definite article: "The" Used before singular and plural nouns when the noun is specific. b)Indefinite articles: "a, an" Used before singular nouns when the noun is general or to indicate membership of a category as in a profession, nation, religion, or type of plant. 5)Adverbs: They used to describe verbs, adjectives, and adverbs. They are classified into: a)Manner adjectives. b)Place adjectives. c)Time adjectives. d)Degree adjectives. e)Frequency adjectives. 6)Gerunds: ing form of a verb that acts as a noun. 7)Pronouns a)Personal pronouns. b)Reflexive pronouns. c)Relative pronouns. d)Possessive pronouns. 8)Prepositions: They are used to connect nouns to other words. 9)Conjunctions: They join words of the same class and join clauses.
