This unit discussed the common methods of language teaching, and the general principles behind each. Furthermore, it went into greater detail on a suggested technique, the ESA methodology, and how to effectively teach a class using this method. Engaging the class is the first step. This is a "warm up" to encourage students to start thinking about English and secure their attention. The study stage features the main objective of the lesson, for example a grammatical structure or pronunciation drilling. Lastly the activate stage encourages students to put what they have learned into practice and use the language freely.
