In this unit I learned about teaching receptive skills and the equal importance of reading and listening in order to further grasp the English language. I've also learned that listening skills present more of a challenge as the written word can be read multiple times, whereas language isn't captured. I found it helpful to learn more about the keys to being successful in teaching these skills, such as varying the type of material and choosing material that interests the students. It's important to keep the students engaged and motivated to relevant topics to them, and studying some of the culture if teaching abroad, can be beneficial.
