The unit helped me to learn what to do and how to approach students in a first lesson. It is important not to rush into learning or teaching English techniques, but the priority is to build a rapport with students and get to know one another, in order to plan for future lessons. I should get to know the students' motivation, interests, the current level, and their weaknesses and strengths in learning English. It is also important to break the ice between the students to establish a friendly and warm learning environment. I also learnt that students in a large class settings, students who are reluctant, and students with listening difficulties all need more consideration when preparing a lesson. These problems needs to be addressed effectively by planning a group/pairwork, selecting groups leaders, using role play and other motivational activities, and also pre-teaching the vocabulary needed for the activity to increase their confidence.
