Unit 11 addressed teaching of receptive skills, i.e., reading and listening, explaining why they are important, how we typically use the skills, and how we could learn and teach them as a second language. The biggest challenge in actual classrooms may be how we, teachers, could motivate students to read texts written in English. I completely agree on the statement in Page 3, “Learning to understand texts without knowing every word is a skill that we should also encourage in our students.” To do so, it is critical for teachers to provide students with something they would like "more". Therefore, it is important that teachers make efforts to know individuals in class so that we could select good topics and materials to promote their learning.
