As someone who has studied a foreign language, I appreciate the necessity of receptive skills. In my experience, reading comprehension is much easier than listening. Listening requires more work and more repetitive exercises. Fine tuning the ears to comprehend can be a difficult task that requires practice and patience. Exposure to an opportunity to listening exercises with patience and practice can create in the student a greater sense of confidence and willingness to continue in the learning process. Reading and listening can be complementary to one another when seeking to learn and communicate in a foreign language.
