Although I am quite familiar with the tenses of a verb, I am reminded on how it should be effectively presented to learners as it can be very confusing for them to remember the rules on writing the proper tense of a verb. Unit 4 suggested that the more practical way to teach tenses is to present first the three different times in English (i.e., past, present and future) and expand the discussion by presenting the four aspects of each of these times (i.e., simple, continuous, perfect, and perfect continuous). What struck me the most in Unit 4 is the emphasis on the typical errors committed by language learners. Having pointed out these errors, the unit served as a reminder to an ESL/EFL teacher to decide whether to emphasize accuracy or fluency in the use of verb tenses.
