Unit 3 provides methods and techniques on learning and teaching language. Some of these methods are teacher-centered while some are learner-centered. The efficacy and effectiveness of these methods may depend upon individual circumstances. Regardless of the choice of method to use in teaching language, teachers must consider that learners need to have as much exposure to the target language as possible. Learners must also be provided with communicative tasks for authentic learning. It is also important that affective filters and anxiety levels of learners are minimized while learning a language. I also learned about the Engage-Study-Activate (ESA) approach which is considered the most effective and most logical teaching methodology. The ESA may be used in the classroom in the order that suits a particular language learning objective.
