In unit ten, two of the same ESA lessons were demonstrated. The first lesson was an example of a lesson being taught with deliberate errors, while the second lesson was taught more effectively. The first lesson demonstrated the teachers’ poor attitude and how it affected the class negatively. The teacher's attitude seemed to discourage the students from engaging more. It also showed the students confusion due to the teacher's lack of explanations in the study and activate phase of the lesson. The second lesson was taught more effectively. The teacher spoke slowly and clearly, and he was much more encouraging. He built rapport by learning the student’s names and using their names throughout the lesson, and by involving each student. Also, the teacher effectively explained the activities in each phase of the lesson. He was also more prepared, he had teaching aides and many examples. Both an effective lesson and a lesson with errors were demonstrated to help the viewer make the right decisions when teaching by showing the good and bad.
I have learned what not to do when giving a lesson and be aware of potential issues that may arise. Also, that a teacher’s attitude and the way a teacher handles the situation has an impact on the students and success of a lesson. Lastly, both lesson demonstrations have reinforced the information learned from previous units.
