When teaching a class for the first time, we must know if it is a new group or an existing group. We must not go through the course books during the first lesson. Instead, find out about the students and establish rapport among students. We can play games like Pictionary and hangman during warmers. While dealing with different levels of students, we can pair the stronger ones with the weaker ones. While dealing with a large class, worksheets, group work,choral drilling etc. can be used. The students shouldn’t be allowed to use the native language during the speaking activities. But they can be allowed to use it when they aren’t able to express themselves in English or help each other. To encourage reluctant students, pair works, role play and controlled practice can be given. To deal with difficulties in listening texts, we must carry out the lesson at the pace of the majority of the class.
