Unit six covered the past tenses. For each tense, the usage, form, mistakes that may arise, and teaching ideas were explained. The section on form covered the affirmative, negative and question form. The past simple form is used to express a completed action that happened at a definite time. Some examples of usage are past action with a given time, when the time is asked about, and when an action took place at a definite time even if the time is not mentioned. The past continuous form is used to indicate that a certain action was in progress at a certain time in the past. Some examples of usage are: for interrupted past actions, used in descriptions, and indicate gradual development that took place in the past. The past perfect continuous refers to the past that has two actions, one action had been continuing at a different point in the past. It is used to talk about actions in the past that had been continuing up to the last moment. It does not matter whether the action continued after. The past perfect refers to past actions and a related action that happened before. It is used to relate past actions in the past. In this unit, I learned about the four different past tenses and how each one is used. As well as mistakes or errors that may arise when students practice the tense. Finally, I learned about teaching activities to reinforce the tenses.
