There are five main conditionals. The zero conditional refers to actions that are irrefutable. The first conditional talks about the real situation in future that is possible or certain. The second conditional communicates the unreal situation unlikely to be true. The third conditional shows the past action where condition is never satisfied and therefore consequence is impossible. The mixed conditional shows the hypothetical past action and the hypothetical present consequence. In the reported speech the form of the verb changes . Present tense becomes past tense and hence back shifting happens. Sometimes when stating facts which are not going to change, it is fine to not make any changes.
