Materials like wipe board, visual aids, worksheets, cds, dictionaries can be used in class. The resource books come in three parts. The student book gives the information for the teaching point. The workbook provides the activities used during the study phase and the teacher’s resource book provides the activities which can be used during the activate stage. The advantages of using course books are they are quicker than creating our own materials, offer continuity and are good for new teachers. The students also know what to expect from them. The disadvantages are they dictate the teaching and students may not always like them. Therefore we must create a balance lesson and not overuse course books. We can omit, replace, supplement and adapt the lessons depending on the needs.
