Well, for me and in my little experience teaching, course books have been a great source of material for teaching. Coursebooks have given good ideas and leads to know what to teach. But I have not doggishly glued myself to only the provisions of the coursebook. I have had very little opportunity to use authentic material since most of my students have been beginners. It is good to know that I can use authentic materials for my advanced learners. Off course, it gives them a real feel of the language. Having them listen to a particular news item on TV and reporting back on what they heard or answering questions based on that are great to build the confidence of such advanced learners. I am equally greatful for the links to be able to create my own crosswords and puzzles and others for class to make it more interesting and appealing to my learners
