Unit nineteen covered the types of English classes. There are teaching beginners, in which there are different categories of beginners ranging from students who have no English, adult learners, young learners, and those who have been exposed to some English. When teaching beginners, it is important to keep it simple, use visual aids, use repetition, be supportive and to get them talking. There is also teaching individual students. The advantages of teaching one to one are that there are no mixed levels, students are motivated, and the needs of the student are clearly defined. The disadvantage is that there is little dynamic. It is important to concentrate on their interests and to cover all the skills. There are also monolingual and multilingual classes. Multilingual classes consist of students from different countries and have no common language. In monolingual classes, the students have the same language and they may have the same difficulties. Teaching business English or English for a specific purpose mostly consists of general English and there are three ways of teaching it. There are one on one classes, in- company groups and in- school groups. Some issues teachers may run into is that students have mixed abilities and that they may be tired. When teaching business classes using your ignorance of their job is an advantage, it allows students to use English in class. Lastly, there is teaching young learners, young learners need stimulation and a variety of activities. It is important to repeat, keep it slow and simple, make lessons fun and constantly praise students. It important that teachers do not use the students L1, expect them to have all the material and put individuals on the spot. I have become familiar with the different teaching groups and what are the advantages and disadvantage of each group. I have also learned some valuable tips and things to consider that will help me in the long run. Lastly, I had not been familiar with English or English for a specific purpose and did not take notice of the different aspects of teaching business English.
