This unit focused on how to manage classrooms and students. Many factors come into play when managing classrooms like: voice levels, gestures, eye contact, classroom arrangements, giving instructions, teacher placement, etc. The best tip I found in this unit is to keep explanations clear and short and to ask students questions about the instructions to insure that they understand. Asking "Do you understand?" is not an effective way to check understanding. I have noticed that students often give a quick repetitious answer when asking this question, rather than actually thinking about their own understanding. Another tip I found useful was to use the same set of words to give instructions. This seems so simple, but when emphasized can really help students understand what is going on so much faster than if different words are used.
