Unit four covered the present tenses: present simple, present continuous, present perfect, and present perfect continuous. For each tense were form, usage, teaching ideas, and typical mistakes made. The present simple form is used for things in general, facts, and routines. The three forms: affirmative- subject+ base v. + es /s, negative- s+ aux. v+ ‘do’+ not+ base and question- aux v. ‘do’ +s+ base. The present continuous is used to talk about actions in progress at the time of speaking. The three forms are: affirmative- s+ aux v. ‘be’+ verb+ ing, negative- s+ aux. v ‘be’ +not+ v+ ing, and question- aux. v +s +v+ ing. The present perfect tense is used to relate something from the past to the present. The three forms: affirmative- s+ aux. v. ‘have’+ past participle, negative- s+ aux. v. ‘have’+ not + past participle and question- aux. v. ‘have’+ s+ past participle. Lastly, the present perfect continuous combines the present continuous and the present perfect to show an action that continues up until the present point in time. The three forms: affirmative-s+ aux. v ‘have+ been+ verb+ ing, negative- s+ aux. v. ‘have’+ not+ been+ v. +ing, and question: aux. v ‘have’+ s+ been+ v.+ing. I learned how to explain each present tense in a way that people would understand. I learned about the common mistakes people make and how to correct such mistakes. I also learned about teaching ideas that are appropriate, depending on various factors for the active stage of a lesson.
