As a teacher, one of the tasks is to make sure that the class runs smoothly. First, it is important to build rapport and enthusiasm amongst the students as a good learner is a motivated learner. It is also important to be flexible and allow the students to explore. For example, it is not a good idea to correct a students error at every turn and occasion as it will intimidate the student and discourage them from giving future answers. The Engage phase is a good time for the students to get acclimated and to start thinking and exploring, hence, error correction at this phase is not important. In the Study phase, it is important to allow the students to understand the concepts of language formation, usage, and how to use it. It is important to be concise and clear about this but at the same time lenient. It is also important to be flexible in the course, to allow a smoother transition between phases and activities. In learning a foreign language, it is important for the lessons to be student-centered. Even in the Study phase, it is important to involve the students in activities or to use the concepts amongst themselves to allow for better comprehension. This is especially true in the Activate phase, during which the teacher should not be leading at all. It is also important for the teacher to give clear instructions and making sure that the student understand or else they will be confused, as seen in the first video. Comparatively, in the second video, where the teacher made sure the students understood the task by eliciting a correct answer from the worksheet allowed the students to work better amongst themselves. Also, although monitoring is helpful, it shouldn't be overused to the point of helicoptering. The goal of monitoring is to be helpful to the students and to see the progress not to hound the students to go faster.
