Lesson planning has helped me become a more effective teacher. I remember my first lesson plan on an Excel spreadsheet, which I presented to my mentor. I can still recall what I was told: "What's the goal of this lesson? Your should plan to achieve that goal."
More recently, friends who have earned their master's degree in education are arguing against lesson planning, that a teacher must be emergent and adaptive.I agree that it could be great. When it comes to adult education, something that I specialize in, they demand structure. The culture in the classroom and expectations may change in the future, and why shouldn't it? Until then I plan to sculpt my lessons using the ESA.
