In teaching English grammar and vocabulary, there are some important points to check. For vocabulary, it is important to make sure that the students understand the meaning, usage, spelling, pronunciation, and the word's interaction within the language structure. However, in the selection of the vocabulary, it is important also to create the appropriate setting and context to use the words while also considering the teachability (e.g. teaching beginners very complex words). Similarly, teaching grammatical structures, it is also important to consider the same factors. Different levels and different tasks may require different strategies of teaching. Learning new vocabulary may be better with the "Straight Arrow" teaching style, whereas grammatical structures may be better with "Patchwork" structure. However, this needs to be adjusted based on the different class, teaching style, and student receptibility. There is no best way or one way to do it. It just depends on the circumstances for which one will be better. Sometimes, it may be better using one method today and another method tomorrow.
