I think it is very good to have an understanding of the different types of tests, and how to best utilize them. There are many different types of learners, and sometimes the brightest people are poor test takers. Also, tests can create anxiety so making sure the test is appropriate is important as well. I think having a practice test is always a good thing to do because it lets students understand where they are at, and also what the expectation is for them so they can prepare for the actual exam.
