Unit 11 describes about the receptive skills which are the listening and reading. Listening and reading are equally important among other skills. They are developed among the students without using their senses alone but also the pre-existing knowledge they have to understand the text. Readers and listeners employ various specialty skills in understanding the text such as predictive skills,scanning, skimming, detailed information and deducing. Teaching listening and reading must be carefully done by considering some problems that may encounter by the learners such as language, the topic and task to be done by them. Thus, it is very essential that selection of texts is carefully done based on students interest, length and complexity. In addition to this, realistic comprehension must be monitired to aid understanding.
