This chapter explained not only the importance of having a class textbook, but the multiple factors which determine its success in the course. When listing the advantages and disadvantages, price was top of the list. I think this is major concern I’d have as an educator but you would hope that if students are paying for an ESL course they might also have the funds to afford the book. My biggest takeaway was that you can’t trust or rely on the textbook 100 percent of the time. To be a good teacher you have to do research, learn about your students and be flexible. I think this is something many teachers are not prepared for in general. Definitely appreciated the names of books and websites for creating supplementary resources for students.
