Planning in general is done so that a task or set of tasks can be accomplished easier rather than shooting from the hip. It allows for the structured completion of the task that needs to be completed. Lesson planning for a teacher is the same. It gives the teacher a heading as to how the lesson should be delivered and the time it should take so that minimal time is wasted and students get the most learning done. A lesson plan serves as a guide for the teacher in order to keep record as to which sections have been covered, which haven't and highlights those sections that will need to be redone in the future as per the teachers notes.
