In this unit, I reviewed the value of lesson planning and practiced planning a few lessons. Some important reasons for writing a lesson plan are: to have a reference to look at during the lesson, to keep track of themes and learner objectives while also tracking your own progress as a teacher, to keep a record of what you have covered for your own future benefit and for the benefit of any substitutes, and to note the time required for activities, so you can make sure flexibility remains in the lesson and that you have enough activities to cover all the teaching time. Organization was something I found very useful in this lesson. The first time I taught, I had no idea what my classroom looked like going in. So making sure you have your lesson plan and multiple activities both using electronics and that can be done without electronics is vital. It would probably be useful for future course takers to point out that they should never fully rely on a computer to get through a lesson. Sometimes they aren’t available or just plain won’t work for you. In addition, teachers should always have a few backup plans built into their lessons in case something doesn’t work.
